The first month of a new decade…almost gone already. Other than February, this has to be my favorite month. Clearly, it’s not the weather that I’m fond of…this is Wisconsin! No, it’s just that it’s January…and January means “new”. The month has clout. It represents change, reflection, and perspective. It’s the time when I take stock of the previous year and think about what I could have done better.
My achilles heel is organization. It has been all decade. I’m just plain lazy when it comes to keeping the clutter in check in my space. So I finally decided it’s time to grow up. Generally I’m like a little kid…I want to play with my friends before making time for homework. Besides, you have to be in the mood for this kind of task. Now since I made the committment to fix the mess in January, and the month is getting away from me, I decided to force myself to be in the mood. Yesterday was the day. I put on my headphones, cranked my tunes and started organizing. First the kitchen, then my bedroom and finally, my office…one corner at a time. I made space in the basement for seasonal stuff and I got rid of the stuff that I know I don’t need. All in all, the process took most of the day.
But guess what? I’m SOOO happy!!! Now I just have to do the little things everyday that will keep it that way so we don’t have to have this conversation again in January 2011.
