I know you think you are but in this country we have been conditioned to believe we are hungry whenever we are not full. The continuum from hungry to full is broad. For example, you could feel “neutral.” This is a healthy place to be right after a meal. It’s the feeling you have before you go back for seconds. You know what I’m talking about…you are not hungry but you could easily eat more. Resist the temptation and your stomach will shrink. Eventually, you’ll want less volume.
But the feeling that gives us the most trouble is called “empty.” It’s half way between neutral and hungry and usually happens about an hour after a meal. You might not even notice it if you are busy. However, you always notice it when you are bored. Maybe your stomach even growls a little but if you ignore it, it’ll go away. Most people who struggle with their weight have strong responses to this feeling and quickly search for a solution…at work this could be the vending machine. The next time you feel “empty”, just sit down, relax and think about whether or not you are really uncomfortable. Hungry is a stronger sensation…it’s more demanding. See if you can make friends with empty. Drink some water and get busy. Food tastes so much better when you are actually hungry.
5 days done already!!! I’m not seeing very many confessions…is everyone doing that well? Come on, speak up…it motivates all of us. Good luck this weekend!!!
